Almond Development

The almond crop in our area is really moving fast. There are multiple parts to an almond developing; the nut meat, skin, shell and hull. The almond meats are now all solidified and the nut itself looks like an almond and not a jelly consistency that they were just a few weeks ago. The skin is still soft and not quite ready to be the outer layer of the nut. The shell is still soft as well,  but it is getting harder every day and it will soon be ready to be the protector for the almond. The hull is ready for its duty and in another couple weeks or so it be splitting. When the hull splits it is a sign to farmers that harvest is a mere 3 to 4 weeks away.

Until Next Time,
